ABC practice makes perfect

May 18, 2009

Having a preschooler who is soon going to enter the world of kindergarten is an exciting challenge.  My youngest son Solomon turned five just yesterday and is thrilled about the prospect of going to a ‘big boy school’ and following in his brother’s footsteps.  While he has done well in preschool, I think we need to do a little homeschooling this summer to ensure that he starts off kindergarten well prepared and bound for success.  One of the many things we’ll be working on this summer is his ABC’s and practicing his writing.  I found some great products at our local Toys That Teach store – they have a great website and locations in Rancho Cordova and Roseville.

One of the many educational products they carry is the Eeboo Alphabet Puzzle Pairs.  It is a simple and well made set of two-piece puzzles that have upper and lowercase letters along with pictures of things that make the letter sounds.  For instance the ‘C’ card is paired with a lovely illustration of a cupcake, etc.  You can find this product and others like it at www.toysthatteach.com or at either of their retail locations  for $15.99.

The other product we invested in for a mere $10.99 is a set of Jumbo Magnetic Letters for the refrigerator.  My son loves magnets and playing with them in the kitchen so this will be a great way for him to practice his letters and the sounds they make.

Learning the alphabet and the sounds each letter makes is a basic in kindergarten and an easy thing to practice at home.  Check out your local Toys That Teach or go online and help your preschooler get a great head-start in the world of big-kid school that’s just around the corner!

The turkey's been carved, the pumpkin pies been devoured and tomorrow is black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year. I am not planning on doing much shopping tomorrow. The one place I will hit is my nearest Longs Drugs store. I read through the piles of advertisements this afternoon and just one produce caught my eye. It's called the Pure Digital video recorder, and I received one  Read more...

Capturing the magic of summer

July 21, 2008

Summer is officially, here and nearly gone it seems. Just a month ago we celebrated the summer solstice with a family bbq and berry picking party. Now, suddenly I'm thinking back-to-school clothes for my soon-to-be first grader, soccer season is gearing up and I'm wondering how time passes so quickly. So I am trying my best to celebrate each moment with my little ones during these warm lazy  Read more...
