Bouncin' Birthday Deals
January 22, 2009
Today I officially began planning for my son Mordecai's 7th birthday party. I'm working on a budget so it's easier and more complicated than usual. It's easier because I'm just working with the basics: entertainment, food, decorations. It's more complicated because I'm searching on-line to find the best deals so I can stretch my budget as far as it will go. Yesterday I mentioned finding a Read more...
Party planning and penny pinching
January 21, 2009
I realized today that both of my son's birthdays are fast approaching. This time of year is always a hectic one for me because I don't choose to do the easy Chuck E. Cheese party where there is virtually not prep time and no clean up. Because we have always had home birthdays, this is what my son's expect and therefore, this is what their loving mother delivers. However this year, times are Read more...
Little lessons from a playdate hosting mom
November 25, 2008
Today we had the mother of all play dates. Five boys - that's right - two four year-olds and three six-year olds. It was surprisingly easy, but there were two very good lessons I learned during the six hours (count 'em, six) that I hosted the play date. The first lesson is this: Legos are a godsend. And Legos from garage sales are priceless. Now most kids enjoy Legos, however they are Read more...
Bubble Fun
November 11, 2008
So I spent all last night browsing through my new favorite book entitled Unplugged Play: No Batteries. No Plugs. Pure Fun. It is jam-packed with electronic-free games for kids from 12 months to 10 years old. It is organized really well with sections for each age divided into categories such as indoor play, pretend play, outdoor play, party play, group activities, etc. Today my boys Read more...

Fun Support for Mama
August 22, 2008
While becoming a new mom is a blissful, enriching and powerful experience, it can also be very lonely. If you are not surrounded by girlfriends with their own little ones it can be difficult to figure out how to meet other moms. I found myself in this predicament when my first son was born and went the 'mom's group' route. And while I met many nice ladies, none that I had a lot in common with. Read more...
Frolicking with the Fishes
August 19, 2008
If your little one is obsessed with Finding Nemo or The Little Mermaid than I have the outing for you. The Nimbus Fish Hatchery located in Gold River - right off the Hazel exit of highway 50 - is a great place to take kiddos to learn about fish and explore the natural world. The hatchery has a wide variety of salmon and trout in various stages of development in large concrete pens for viewing. Read more...
Bouncing back-to-school
August 12, 2008
We have one week left until school starts and instead of the balmy fall weather I remember at back-to-school time as a kid, it is H-O-T. My boys and I are trying to enjoy these last days of summer vacation to the fullest, and a necessary part of that enjoyment is finding ways to stay cool. Aside from the obvious: hitting the river in Sac or Folsom, Folsom Lake or the plethora of community Read more...
Mom-Friendly Advice
June 18, 2008
A friend of mine who is expecting asked me the other day how I came to know so many moms and developed so many friendships around my kids. This gave me pause because before six years ago I really wasn't a playdate kinda gal. If I had looked to the future of my motherhood I would've seen it as a pretty isolated place. I know, there are those women that know a million other women and they all Read more...

So obviously the Sacramento heat is here and I consider it my personal mission to find all the fun new places that have not only awesome A.C. but will also entertain my little ones. I am proud to share my latest gem with you - it's called: Monster Mini Golf. So I drove past this place a hundred times before I figured out what it was. It's a shame because it would also be great for rainy days. Read more...
